A gigante da internet, Google, resolveu doar 20 milhões de dólares, cerca de R$ 35,6 milhões, como presente da Natal para algumas instituições de caridade ao redor do mundo. O Grupo Cultural Afro Reggae foi um dos contemplados e irá receber parte deste dinheiro.
A ONG carioca teve início em 1993 e hoje já atua em quatro comunidades, Vigário Geral, Morro do Cantagalo, Parada de Lucas e Complexo do Alemão. Além disso, o grupo tem mais de 65 Projetos e também desenvolve trabalhos em todo Brasil e fora dele. O trabalho e a história do Afro Reggae foi contada no filme Favela Rising.
